A body was found last night at a rural area north of Dunedin, police say.
The body was found about 8pm yesterday, and a scene examination and formal identification are underway.
Police said a property on Lock Street, St Clair, was also being examined but could not confirm whether the two incidents were linked.
The property search relates to a person reported missing on 5 February, police said.
Police say anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Lock Street area between 4 February and 5 February should call police on 03 471 4800.
Alternatively they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Police say they expect to be able to release further details in the coming days.
