In a statement, Detective Inspector Dave De Lange said a team of detectives were continuing to investigate the discovery of a woman's body in a Havelock North carpark over the weekend.

Police have not yet been able to indentify the woman found in the burnt out vehicle.

After reviewing missing persons cases in the wider area, police had not yet identified any links to the unexplained death De Lange said.

However, detectives were continuing to look into these and other missing persons cases, he said.

De Lange said detectives were waiting for post-mortem results and forensic tests to establish the events that unfolded before the car was set alight at a reserve on River Road.

The woman's death would continue to be treated as unexplained pending post-mortem results, he said.

"The community can be assured that we are working hard to identify this woman and to establish what has happened to her," De Lange said.

This weekend, police are planning to station a community bus at the River Road Recreational Reserve to speak with anyone who may have information that might be relevant to the investigation.

Police urged anyone with information to contact them on 105 quoting file number: 220905/1265.
