Fiji could be reinstated to the councils of the Commonwealth -- should member countries decide the political situation in Suva has improved since the military coup late last year.
The Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group meets in New York on Sunday.

"Commonwealth ministers will assess Fiji's progress towards elections; key principles are a representative parliament and an opposition that's free to challenge the government. Commonwealth sources say if the situation has improved, Fiji will be reinstated. However officials would not say whether the Secretary-General, Don McKinnon, would meet Fiji's interim leader, Commodore Frank Bainimarama. In London this is Ben Lowings."
