Four more people arrested at anti-mandate protest

Four people have been arrested at the anti-mandate protest on Parliament grounds since yesterday, including one man who has been charged with possessing an offensive weapon, police say.

The number of protesters gathered at Parliament is dwindling, with about 200 people staying overnight last night, police said in a statement.

Police have made four arrests since yesterday.

  • A 33-year-old man was arrested yesterday for breach of bail and appeared in Wellington District Court today.
  • A 55-year-old man was charged with wilful trespass last night and will appear in court on Thursday
  • A 53-year-old man was arrested today, charged with possessing an offensive weapon. He appeared in court today.
  • A 33-year-old man was arrested today for breach of bail and is due to appear in court tomorrow.

Police said about 20 protesters had gathered outside Piptea Marae today, but moved on after police spoke with them.

They had also seized pipes and plywood sheets that protesters attempted to carry through the cordon today.

Police continued to monitor the protest and conduct "reassurance patrols", particularly between the beginning and end of the work and school day.
