Police arrest man for duck hunt injury

The police in Masterton have arrested a man in connection with the shooting of another man on the first day of duck shooting season.

The man was shot about 11.30am on Saturday at Bideford, north of Masterton.

A 44 year old man has been charged with careless use of a firearm causing injury and has been bailed to appear in the Masterton District Court at a later date.

The victim, who is also 44 years old, was shot in the elbow and remains in a stable condition in Wellington Hospital.

The police initially said it was unclear whether the lead shot richocheted off another object or if he was shot at close range.
