The former territorial senator, Tuaolo Fruean, has been officially confirmed as American Samoa's Police Commissioner.
Senators voted 14-2 to endorse the nomination of Tuaolo, who served in the Senate in the last eight years as one of three Ma'oputasi County senators.
Tuaolo, who is 64, was urged by his former colleagues to revive a local programme that allowed police officers to continue police training at the FBI and Honolulu Police Department academies in Honolulu.
