Police in Bay of Plenty are urging the public to report any unlawful or antisocial behaviour, as gang members head to Ōpōtiki to pay tribute to a member this weekend.

Senior Sergeant Richard Miller said extra officers were being brought in and would monitor the memorial motorbike ride.

He asked motorists travelling on State Highway 35 between Ōpōtiki and Maraenui on Saturday to be particularly careful.

Miller the police would also be in contact with the whanau of the person being remembered.

He sad the community had the right to feel safe, and asked anyone who saw antisocial or unlawful behaviour to contact the police.

Meanwhile in the Wellington region, police said there could be traffic disruption on State Highway 58 Saturday morning, with a funeral procession for a gang member from Wainuiomata to Whenua Tapu cemetery in Porirua.

Motorists should expect some delays.

Last weekend, a tangi in Hawke's Bay saw about 100 police deployed to counter potential antisocial behaviour.
