New Zealand Symphony Orchestra chief executive Peter Biggs has resigned, citing his health as a main factor.
His resignation would take immediate effect.
In a statement, NZSO said it announced Biggs' resignation to staff and players on Tuesday.
"Mr Biggs tendered his resignation to the NZSO Board for a number of reasons, including his health."
It said Biggs had had a long relationship with the NZSO.
"He was a member of the NZSO board prior to being appointed interim chief executive in December 2019 and was made chief executive in April 2020."
The board has appointed Kirsten Mason as acting chief executive.
