The final result of the Citizens Initiated Referendum on assets sales has been released, with 67.3 per cent of respondents voting against the partial sale of three state power companies and Air New Zealand.

The Electoral Commission says voter turnout on the basis of the final result was 45.1 per cent (1,368,925 people), with 32.4 per cent of people in support.

The Government has previously said that the result will have no effect on its asset sales programme.
