Care and support workers rally for better pay amid staffing shortages

Care and support workers are holding rallies today to draw attention to their low wages and workforce shortages.

Their pay rates, which are set by law, will soon expire.

Their unions say the government is offering a 70 cent an hour pay rise.

But workers say that won't be enough to attract good workers to fill staff shortages; and it won't be enough to stop staff taking on extra hours to help meet the rising cost of living.

PSA delegate and worker Michelle Troup spoke to Māni Dunlop about how poor pay was exacerbating problems.
