A six-year-old boy has died after a quad bike accident on a farm in Southland.
Inspector Peter Hegarty said the badly injured child was rushed to Southland Hospital after the accident at Lorneville, near Invercargill, about 6pm on Monday.
Police don't yet know if the boy was alone on the quad bike. He died in an ambulance on the way to hospital.
Victim Support is providing assistance to the family and Mr Hegarty said no further details are being released at this time.
An investigation is continuing.
