A man police consider dangerous has gone missing after being granted bail to attend his son's funeral.
Joseph Tira Rangi pleaded guilty to wounding with intent in the Hastings District Court on Tuesday after punching his girlfriend 12 times and biting her cheek.
Detective Sergeant Darren Pritchard says Rangi was granted bail to attend his son's funeral but did not arrive back at Hawke's Bay prison at 5pm.
Police believe he is in either the Napier, Hastings or Whanganui areas, where he has family.
Mr Pritchard says Rangi is regarded as dangerous and should not be approached.
Police are also concerned about the safety of Rangi's victim, whom officers have not been able to contact.
