A new variety of sheep, bred in Fiji to withstand tropical conditions, is to be exported to Samoa for breeding purposes.
The sheep has been in development for 20 years and is a cross between the Barbados black-bellied sheep - imported from California - and merino.
An official from the team that developed the "Fiji Fantastic" says the new breed resists the often-fatal flystrike which flourishes in the wet and warm wool of sheep traditionally bred in the tropics.
The sheep will be bred for meat.
