The fate of schools in eastern Christchurch has finally been confirmed, with the Education Minister announcing a so-called superschool will be built on the site of the current Aranui High School.
Last September, Aranui, Avondale and Wainoni schools and Aranui High School were told they would combine on a new campus that would take pupils from new entrants to school-leavers.
On Friday the minister, Hekia Parata, said the new Aranui Community Campus will be built on the current high school site and open for term one in 2017.
The Ministry of Education will seek nominations from members of the community for an establishment board of trustees that will develop the charter and work with those designing and building the school.
