Civil society groups in French Polynesia have backed a proposal to ban mobile phones in schools.

The CSCE, which represents a cross section of interest groups, has voted in favour of a bill drawn up by a pro-independence assembly member.
The regulation is aimed at increasing concentration on school work as well as curbing cyber-bullying.
An exception would be made for students with disabilities who might need urgent assistance.
A survey has shown that more than 80 percent of children over the age of 14 in French Polynesia have mobile phones.
The phone use issue came to the fore last week when a high school student in Tahiti was expelled for assaulting a teacher who was trying to confiscate his phone.
