New nation South Sudan claim a draw

18:23 pm on 11 July 2012

The world's newest nation, South Sudan, has played its first international football game - drawing 2-2 with neighbours Uganda.

A day after celebrating the country's first birthday, the national men's team claimed their first-ever draw in the capital, Juba.

South Sudan seceded from Sudan on July 9th 2011, after five decades of civil war that killed an estimated two million people and scattered the rest into the bush or abroad.

Football's world governing body FIFA has also just recognised the African nation.
