A suspended Nauru opposition MP says the health minister must resign after being charged for manslaugher and dangerous driving.

Valdon Dowiyogo was allegedly driving the utility vehicle that struck a motorbike near Yaren last week, killing the driver and seriously injuring his wife.

The Supreme Court Registrar has confirmed the minister has been charged, however during a parliamentary session yesterday, the matter was not raised by either side.

Squire Jeremiah, who is currently suspended from parliament along with four colleagues, says people are afraid to speak out, but Mr Dowiyogo must step down.

"It is a serious charge and I think it would be appropriate for him to step down while the investigation is ongoing. There is no opposition in the house, people are afraid to speak out or share information on what's happening. You can imagine how difficult it is for us to get information while under this government."

The next session of Nauru's parliament is due in February.
