Two people have died and another is being airlifted to hospital following a crash in Southland.
St John was first alerted to the single vehicle crash on State Highway One near Mataura shortly before 5pm.
A spokesperson said one person is being flown to Dunedin Hospital in a serious condition.
A fourth person with moderate injuries is being taken to Kew Hospital.
Motorists are being urged to avoid the area as there are diversions in place.
The Serious Crash Unit has been advised.
