Police respond to firearms incident in Māngere

A 65-year-old man has been arrested after shots were reportedly fired at a vehicle in Māngere, South Auckland on Friday night.

A large police presence including the Armed Offenders Squad was called to the scene at about 8pm.

The man will appear at Manukau District Court today facing firearms-related charges.

Police said there were no injuries.

The Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board is concerned about drive-by shootings happening in the community.

Chairperson Tauanu'u Nanai Nick Bakulich said the community was fearful of what could happen next.

He said the board would be giving a statement later this afternoon.
