The Matangi Tonga website reports that two men died in the last week of 2011 when their car swerved and hit a coconut tree, bringing the annual road toll to 12, compared to six deaths in 2010.
Police say, during the festive season, reported crime was down on the same period the year before.
Seventy-five offences were reported to police, including 23 assaults and 19 house break-ins.
