Villegas takes first PGA title

15:58 pm on 8 September 2008

The Colombian golfer Camilo Villegas has claimed his maiden PGA Tour title with a two-shot victory at the BMW Championship in Missouri.

Villegas sealed the win with a final round two-under 68 and a winning total of 15-under 265 to snap a three-year title drought and collect the 1.9 million dollar winner's cheque.

Fijian Vijah Singh, who captured the first two events of the FedEx playoff series, put an end to any suspense at the season-ending Tour Championship in three weeks by quietly clinching the title.

Singh spent the entire week out of the spotlight finishing well down the leaderboard in a tie for 44th and now only has to show up in Atlanta and play all four rounds at East Lake to accept his trophy and a 15 million dollar playoff bonus.
