US tourist in French Polynesia isolation over flu fears

12:48 pm on 5 June 2009

A woman from the United States has been placed in isolation in a French Polynesian hospital amid fears that she could have the H1N1 flu.

On arrival in Tahiti, she was detected to have a temperature and was immediately admitted to a hospital in Papeete.

Initial tests suggest she has type A flu but the test sample is yet to be tested by a WHO laboratory in Australia.

Last month, five local students were quarantined for five days after returning from California but the tests were negative.
