The United States Coast Guard is working with the American Samoa government to improve the delivery of petrol to Manu'a in a safer and more efficient manner.

Up to now 208 litre drums are used to transport fuel to the outer islands but the Coast Guard's Al Blaisdell said they were hoping to use a proper fuel tank which can be lifted by crane on and off boats going to Manu'a.

The capacity of the fuel tank is more than 3,800 litres.

This should ensure a steady supply of petrol for the Manu'a islands.
