The government is renewing its focus on the health and well-being of Pasifika people in New Zealand, in a targeted programme announced today.
Associate Health Minister Jenny Salesa said the Pacific Health Action Plan was being implemented to address key areas of health.
The plan will be developed by the Ministry of Health, which will work across the health sector and with other government agencies to see what is needed.
Ms Salesa said this could mean looking at factors outside the health system, such as housing or education.
The ministry will hold a series of forums where people can have their say on the plan.
According to the ministry, Pasifika people experience poorer health outcomes than other New Zealanders across several health and disability indicators.
