Latest - Hawke's Bay stole a golden-point extra-time win to defeat Ranfurly Shield challengers Bay of Plenty 36-33 at McLean Park in Napier on Sunday.
Tries to skipper Ash Dixon, loose forward Solomone Funaki and prop Pouri Rakete-Stones gave the holders a 27-19 lead at half-time, with No.10 Lincoln McClutchie adding three conversions and two penalties to the tally.
Onisi Ratave contributed two tries to the Steamers' five-try collection, his second in the 78th minute giving Bay of Plenty a 33-30 lead.
But replacement Hawke's Bay first-five Tiaan Falcon slotted an 81st minute long-range penalty to level the scores, then knocked over an easier attempt three minutes later to wrap up the win.
Podium finish for triathlete Van Der Kaay
New Zealander Nicole Van Der Kaay has finished second in the Hamburg leg world championship triathlon series.
It's the first podium finish for Van Der Kaay, 25, who took silver just four seconds behind Germany's Laura Lindemann.
Van Der Kaay was 16 seconds behind the leaders after the swim, but put together a solid 32min 31sec cycle and went into the final running leg well positioned.
Lindemann shook the New Zealander off in the final half-kilometre to take the win, but Van Der Kaay clocked 16:19 for the 5km run to take silver in 58:21, three seconds clear of third-placed American Summer Rappaport.
South Korea too strong for NZ in Davis Cup tie
South Korea have beaten New Zealand 3-1 in the Davis Cup World Group 1 tie at the International Tennis Hall of Fame at Newport in Rhode Island.
Tokyo Olympic bronze medalists Michael Venus and Marcus Daniell gave New Zealand a glimmer of hope with a hard-fought victory in the doubles rubber.
However, Korean number one Kwon Soonwoo proved too strong for New Zealand number one Rubin Statham in the first of the reverse singles rubbers to give Korea an unassailable 3-1 lead.
The world number 83 won 6-3 6-3 underlying his class from the baseline, coming from 3-2 down in the first set, rattling off the next four games to take the set.
Earlier Michael Venus and Marcus Daniell overcame a sluggish start to beat the Korean pair of Nam Ji-Sung and Song Min-kyu 4-6 6-2 6-4 in 1 hour 45 and get New Zealand on the board.
Daniell served for the match at 5-3 in the deciding set but was broken with a double fault. However, he made amends in the next game at 30-40, sending a wonderful backhand return of serve winner down the line to win the match.
Korea advance to the qualifiers next February while New Zealand will go to the World Group 1 playoffs.
Panthers to face Storm in grand final decider
Penrith are one win away from the NRL grand final after edging Parramatta 8-6 in last night's elimination playoff in Mackay.
The scoreline didn't reflect the entertainment value of the game, with drama aplenty in the tense affair in Queensland.
The Panthers face the Melbourne Storm next Saturday at Suncorp Stadium, after losing to South Sydney last weekend, for the right to face the winner of Friday night's Rabbitohs-Sea Eagles clash in the premiership decider.
After having their 17-match winning streak ended by Melbourne in last year's grand final and losing just three games in the 2021 regular season, Penrith scraped past the Eels to keep their season alive.
Liverpool go top with win over Palace as City held by Saints
Liverpool went top of the Premier League with a 3-0 win over Crystal Palace, while champions Manchester City were held to a goalless draw at home to Southampton.
Arsenal picked up their second straight win with a 1-0 victory at Burnley, while promoted Brentford posted an impressive 2-0 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
With Chelsea and Manchester United not in action until Monday, Juergen Klopp's side moved to 13 points from five matches after goals from Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Naby Keita at Anfield.
Liverpool had been well on top against Patrick Vieira's Palace but struggled to turn their dominance into goals until Mane turned the ball in from close range just before halftime for his 100th goal for the club.
His strike followed a shocking miss by Portugal international Diogo Jota, who blazed over the bar from two yards out.
Salah added a second to kill off the contest on 78 minutes as Virgil van Dijk flicked on a corner and the forward supplied a neat finish.
But there was still time for Keita to add a magnificent third when he volleyed into the net from the edge of the box as the clock ticked into injury-time.
City were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Southampton at the Etihad Stadium.
After an uneventful first half where City were well below par, Southampton thought they had been handed a golden chance to go in front just after the interval when they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Adam Armstrong. To make matters worse for City, Kyle Walker was sent off for the foul.
But referee Jon Moss, following a VAR intervention, overturned both the red card and the awarding of the spot kick.
Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden were both summoned from the bench as City pressed for a winner, which they thought they had grabbed at the death through Raheem Sterling, but his effort was ruled out for offside.
The result means City fall three points behind Liverpool, on 10 points.
Martin Odegaard's 30th-minute curling free kick earned Arsenal back-to-back wins although they also had some help from VAR as they hung on for the three points at Turf Moor.
The Norwegian midfielder curled the ball beautifully into the top corner of Nick Pope's goal in the 30th minute, helping take Mikel Arteta's side on to six points
Burnley threw on Czech forward Matej Vydra and recent signing Maxwel Cornet -- who was making his debut -- in the 57th minute, in a change that brought the home side and their fans to life.
The Clarets thought they had a chance of an equaliser when Vydra went down under a challenge from Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale and referee Anthony Taylor pointed to the spot.
But when VAR intervened, Taylor went to the pitchside monitor and overturned his decision after seeing footage showing Ramsdale playing the ball.
Brentford claimed their first away victory in the Premier League with a 2-0 win at Wolves, despite going down to 10 men midway through the second half.
Ivan Toney scored and grabbed an assist in a busy first half in which he also had two goals disallowed. But the visitors were forced to defend for the last half hour when Shandon Baptiste was sent off for a second yellow card.
Brentford held on and the result moved them up to ninth in the standings while Wolves, still seeking their first home win under Bruno Lage, slipped to 16th.
Aston Villa ended Everton's unbeaten start to the Premier League season as three goals in nine second-half minutes earned them a 3-0 victory at Villa Park on Saturday.
Everton have 10 points from five games in fifth spot with Villa moving up into the top half of the table with seven points from their five games.

Back-to-back poles for Bagnaia with lap record at San Marino
Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia claimed a second consecutive MotoGP pole position when he set the all-time lap record in qualifying at the San Marino Grand Prix.
Bagnaia, who claimed his maiden premier class victory last weekend at the Aragon Grand Prix, set a lap time of 1:31.065 to lead a Ducati one-two with team mate Jack Miller in second while world championship leader Fabio Quartararo starts third.
Pramac Racing's Jorge Martin and Johann Zarco start fourth and fifth on the grid and are joined on the second row by Honda's Pol Espargaro, who pushed team mate Marc Marquez down to seventh.
The qualifying session had numerous crashes, with Petronas Yamaha's Valentino Rossi going off the track in Q1 while Marquez and Quartararo went off in Q2 as they attempted to set faster laps and reel in Bagnaia.
Quartararo leads Bagnaia by 53 points heading into the final five races of the season. Defending champion Joan Mir of Suzuki, four points behind Bagnaia, starts 11th on the grid behind Aprilia's new rider Maverick Vinales.
Andrea Dovizioso, who made his MotoGP return to take the vacant seat at Petronas Yamaha, will start last on the grid behind Rossi.
