Boobs on Bikes parade through capital

22:16 pm on 7 November 2008

The controversial Boobs on Bikes parade has been held in central Wellington without incident.

In chilly conditions, several thousand people turned out to watch the parade, which began in Post Office Square just before 1pm and wound its way down Lambton Quay before finishing at Parliament on Friday.

Earlier, the Speaker's Office had said security was in place because commercial ventures are not allowed on Parliament's grounds.

The porn stars got off their motorbikes beside the closed gates before entering the grounds and posing for photographs on the grass verge.

There was a heavy police presence as media and members of the public piled through the pedestrian entrances.

Inspector Simon Perry says no arrests were made and the participants were entitled to be on Parliament grounds as long as they stayed on the grass area.

Organiser Steve Crow says he plans to bring the parade back to Wellington next year.
