Asylum seeker death on Nauru leads to rise in threat level

15:03 pm on 18 June 2018

The death of an Iranian asylum seeker on Nauru has led to the threat level being raised on island and some services being withdrawn, according to a refugee advocate.

The Refugee Action Coalition's Ian Rintoul says Nauru is still mourning the death of 26-year-old Fariborz Karami, who was found dead on Friday morning in his family's tent.

A commemoration of Farhad's life was held on Sunday night.

Mr Rintoul told Moera Tuilaepa that Mr Karami was a popular man.
