Education leaders have variously described the Education Ministry's response to the pandemic as a shambles, a game of Russian roulette, as well as nimble and responsive.
They warned Parliament's Epidemic Response Committee on Tuesday that some students' education is suffering under the lockdown.
And they say schools and early learning centres need to know as soon as possible what the rules will be for alert level 2.
