Two fishers were winched to safety after they got trapped on rocks at a Port Waikato beach.
Surf lifeguards said the men were distressed, faced large swells and an incoming tide at Sunset Beach at 10.30am.
Two lifeguards tried to reach them in a rescue vessel but the conditions were too rough.
Surf Lifesaving said one of the lifeguards then swam to the rocks to help the men, as conditions worsened.
Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter winched the men to safety at 1.20pm.
