State Highway One through the Dome Valley north of Auckland will remain closed overnight because of rockfall.

Waka Kotahi has closed the highway in both directions between Warkworth and Wellsford two days in a row.

It said the slip, which was still moving, had spilled 30 truckloads of gravel and rocks onto the road.

Crews will be removing the debris from the top of the slip with water, via a helicopter.

A detour route was available via SH16, West Coast Road and Woodcocks Road.

The first rockfall closed the highway for most of Tuesday morning.

SH75 near Akaroa reopens

The road between Christchurch and Akaroa has reopened, with restrictions, following a slip near Little River.

The slip came down on State Highway 75 between Little River and Birdlings Flat shortly after 7am.

Traffic was being managed under a stop-go system with a 30kmh speed limit.
