Niue's first and only political party has been dissolved.
The Niue People's Party was formed in the 1990's and led by Sani Lakatani who led it to win the 1999 election.
Observers say the collapse of the NPP followed infighting within its ranks and the failure of a range of projects, including the unsuccessful plans to launch an airline, Coral Air.
An opposition MP, Terry Coe, says he hopes this marks the end of party politics which have been widely blamed for causing rifts in families and villages.
Niue's first premier, Sir Robert Rex, had opposed party politics, saying it would split communities.
