Sam Harvey, the cartoonist who created the much loved Goodnight Kiwi has died, aged 91.
The animation marked the end of TV for almost 20 years, until 24-hour transmission began in the 1990s.
Stuff.co.nz reports the accompanying tune was an arrangement of a Maori lullaby, Hine e Hine.
The cinematographer who filmed the cartoons, Henk Prins, told Morning Report it took four hours to shoot.
