In Solidarity: the life of John Sato

After the Christchurch mosque attacks, we saw some of the best of humanity.

People took to the streets in solidarity with the victims, and to stand up against hate and racism. In amongst the crowds at a rally in Auckland was 95-year-old John Sato.

An image of him went viral - and it become one of the most read stories on our website to date.

We wanted to find out a bit more about Mr Sato's life - so our producer Lydia Batham and videographer Tim Collins popped round to his house for hot chocolate, some biscuits and a natter.
