Hilton tries again for Wellington waterfront hotel

13:20 pm on 20 May 2009

The Hilton Hotel chain is investigating further sites for a five-star hotel on Wellington's waterfront, despite having its first attempt rejected by the Environment Court last year.

The chain's communications manager, Charlotte Seymour, says the company remains set on building in the capital.

Ms Seymour says several waterfront sites have been investigated and an official announcement will be made before the end of the year.

David Perks, of Positively Wellington Tourism, says the Hilton has a loyal following among business travellers and would attract more tourists to the city.

Wellington Mayor Kerry Prendergast says the capital needs a genuine five-star hotel.
