Fiji's consumer watchdog says the country's alarming record of amputations is due to poor eating choices.
Premila Kumar from the Consumer Council told the Fiji Times that choosing healthy options at the supermarket is crucial in resolving the scourge of non-communicable diseases.
Ms Kumar says there's one amputation every 12.6 hours in Fiji, with one in three Fijians having diabetes and one five Fijians at a risk of a stroke.
The Consumer Council says the food industry should support its "Health Star Rating" system - a new label system that scores the nutritional value of packaged foods.
