Men attack vulnerable people in city

20:04 pm on 18 July 2008

The police are asking the public for information after four men drove through Wellington streets randomly attacking nine men on Thursday.

Five of the attacks happened within four hours, including one where the victim was driven to an ATM and forced to withdraw money.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Borrell says the four men were looking for vulnerable people, who may have been drinking.

He told Checkpoint someone must have seen them and perhaps noted the car's registration.

Mr Borrell describes the offenders as three young male Maori or Polynesians, and the driver as possibly Caucasian.
