Two records, two semi spots but no Burmester

Two New Zealand swimmers have set new national records as they qualified for this afternoon's semi-finals at the Olympic Games.

Corney Swanepoel and Melissa Ingram went through in the 100 butterflly and 200 backstroke respectively.

Swanepoel qualified ninth fastest in 51.78 seconds, taking almost half a second off his previous best and the national record - which he also held.

Melissa Ingram is through to the semi finals of the 200m backstroke semis qualifying eighth fastest.

But a day after his fourth equal place in the 200 butterfly final, Moss Burmester has missed out on a place in the 100 semis.

The Australian women's 4X200 freestyle relay team took six seconds off the world record in winning gold, while China's Zige Liu broke the world record in winning the women's 200 butterfly final.

It was the 18th world record to fall in the pool in Beijing.
