PNG sacked investigator challenges acting police boss

17:03 pm on 30 June 2014

Papua New Guinea's suspended crime investigator, Thomas Eluh, says investigators will not handover crucial files related to the Paul Paraka case to the Acting Police Commissioner, Geoffrey Vaki.

Mr Vaki said he would assess the investigation files before passing them on to the public prosecutor, but Mr Eluh told EMTV that Mr Vaki should respect the court order and not interfere with the investigation.

He says if the files are given to Mr Vaki, it would be in contempt of court as the judge's orders were for the police to wait until a decision is handed down.

Mr Eluh says the fraud team working on the case are some of the finest investigators in the PNG police, who have worked towards major fraud convictions.
