PNG's Highlands Highway cleared

04:11 am on 30 April 2019

Papua New Guinea's Highlands Highway has reopened after sections were closed last week by landslides.

Heavy rain trigged the slips in the Eastern Highlands, which also stranded supply trucks in the provincial capital Goroka.

A Chinese construction company which is upgrading the road cleared the blockage on Friday afternoon.

Work to repair the 400 kilometre Highlands Highway started in January and the $US900 million job is expected to be finished within the next 10 years.
