Sport: Cook Islands debut at 3x3 World Basketball Champs

The Cook Islands have lost their opening two matches at the 3x3 World Basketball Championships in Guangzhou, China.

The national women's team were beaten 15-13 by the fifth ranked Czech Republic in their opening match and 11-9 by hosts China, who are ranked 12th.

Johaana Bates is the team's top scorer with nine points.

The team, which also includes Adoniah Lewis, Terai Sadler and Janet Main will play their remaining matches in Pool D against Romania and France tomorrow.

Adoniah Lewis took part in the skills contest qualifier, where participants were required to hit a corner shot, dribble the ball through a slalom of four cones, make a straight pass into a target, dribble through another slalom with two balls forward and then backwards, do a straight pass, dribble through the slalom and then score the basket in 45 seconds.

Lewis completed the task in 34.92 seconds.

Janet Main took part in the shoot-out contest and managed two points in her ten attempts from the top of the arc.
