CNMI says tycoon owes millions in unpaid taxes

13:20 pm on 13 September 2011

A man once listed as among the richest people in America and who owes the CNMI government over 118 million US dollars in unpaid income tax plus interest on judgments has been located in the Cayman Islands.

The Fitial administration, which is trying to cope with a shrinking economy, is using a New York-based law firm to try and recover the money they say is owed by the man who founded the Computerland Corporation retail chain, William Millard.

Mr Millard and his wife Patricia lived on Saipan until 1990, during which time the government contends they accrued the huge tax bill.
