In Vanuatu, the councillors of the Port Vila Municipality have written to their mayor, Albert Daniel, calling on him to resign.
They accused him of poor communication and absences from duty.
Fourteen councillors asked Mr Daniel to show real leadership and respect the institution by voluntarily resigning.
The listed a number of concerns, including the appointment of the deputy mayor without their approval, an accident in an official vehicle allegedly under the influence of alcohol, and the assault of his wife which resulted in a court order.
Mr Daniel has told the Daily Post newspaper that he will respond to the allegations.
