The Cook Islands Prime Minister's Office says all cellular telephone services on Rarotonga could be down for up to three weeks after a fire destroyed the main Bluesky cellular hub today.
The office said what equipment wasn't destroyed by the fire had been water damaged and the station was a write off.
RNZ Pacific's correspondent said local critics claimed the situation could've been avoided if the country had a second telecommunications provider.
They claim Blueksky had to be taken to task for failing to have contingency plans in place.
