A 20-year-old man has died of dengue in New Caledonia, becoming the eighth fatality in this year's outbreak.
The government said the man, who lived in Noumea, was admitted to hospital on Friday and died the same day.
It said he showed first signs of the mosquito-borne illness four days before his death, but had weakened health from undisclosed conditions.
It said 17 people with dengue were being cared for in hospital.
The authorities have renewed calls to eliminate mosquito breeding sites which multiplied after the passing of two cyclones in the past month.
