AA renews call for wheel-clamping rules

21:55 pm on 1 November 2013

The Automobile Association has renewed its call for the wheel-clamping industry to be bound by a set of rules, saying the voluntary Code of Conduct isn't working.

The Government is reviewing the code, which was signed by five businesses in 2012.

The code promised to cap charges around wheel-clamping at $200, but the AA wants charges significantly reduced.

The association's principal adviser, Mark Stockdale, says clamping fees shouldn't cost more than what a council can charge for towing, which he says is between $52 and $70.

Mr Stockdale says the industry needs to be regulated, which would be done with mandatory Code of Conduct.
