The largest provider of counselling and support services, Relationships Aotearoa, says it could fold without an increase in funding from the Government.
An interim board member James Hamilton said the agency had not had a lift in funding in seven years.
Relationships Aotearoa receives about $8 million each year from the Ministries of Social Development, Justice and Corrections and last year posted a $271,000 deficit.
Social Development Minister Anne Tolley said the Government could not keep propping the organisation up when it was not making any attempts to be financially sustainable and meet it contractual obligations.
Mr Hamilton said the agency's story was not dissimilar to that of many non-Government organisations.
