The tourists scored an impressive 208 for four in their 20 overs and then bowled New Zealand out for 144 in the 18th over.

After being asked to bat first the Australians lost Matthew Wade early but then strung together some good partnerships with some lusty blows and well placed shots.

They were able to take some risks later on with wickets in hand.

Glenn Maxwell top scored with 70 while Aaron Finch made 69 and Josh Philippe 43.

Ish Sodhi took two wickets for 32 while Tim Southee and Trent Boult got the other wickets.

In reply New Zealand opener Martin Guptil started strongly and top scored with 43 but Tim Seifert and Kane Williamson both went cheaply, while Devon Conway chimed in with 38.

The Black Caps middle order collapsed losing four wickets for 17 runs, leaving too much for the lower order to do.

Australian left arm spinner Aston Agar was the chief destroyer taking six wickets for 30 runs in the middle and later part of the Black Caps innings.

Speaking afterwards Black Caps captain Kane Williamson said Australia batting very well and that total proved too difficult for them.

The Black Caps lead the five match series 2-1 with the fourth game in the five match series back in Wellington on Friday.
