Advice sought on WoF changes

15:11 pm on 23 April 2013

The Government is seeking advice from the transport industry on introducing changes to the warrant of fitness system.

From April next year, cars registered before 2000 will need six monthly check-ups and once new cars receive their initial warrant, it will be three years before the next inspection.

The Cabinet agreed to the changes in January.

To provide for a smooth transition, Transport Minister Gerry Brownlee said it is proposed that vehicles first registered between 2004 and 2008 will receive a 12-month warrant of fitness from 1 October this year.

He said the Transport Agency is keen to hear about any problems the transport industry believes should be considered.
