Capital & Coast District Health Board says the centre will only be available for booked tests and will open from 8am until 9pm from tomorrow.

Te Papa is closed to the public until Sunday after it was one of the sites visited by the Australian tourist who was in Wellington on the weekend and who later tested positive for Covid-19.

The DHB said the Te Papa testing centre is part of its work to increase testing capacity throughout the Wellington region.

The DHB today brought in five new pop-up testing centres in the Wellington region, bringing the total number of community testing sites to 10.

A DHB statement said Covid-19 swab numbers today far exceeded the 2100 carried out yesterday across the region, with definitive numbers available tomorrow.

People seeking a test are being advised to make an appointment as those without appointments are likely to have longer waiting times.

People can call Healthline on 0800 358 5453 or their GP for advice on testing and for referral to a booking centre to make an appointment.
