A Wellington high schooler accused of wounding a young woman at school has had the charge against them altered.

The 16-year-old was originally charged with wounding with an intent to cause grievous bodily harm, after an incident on 5 July.

But in the Wellington Youth Court on Tuesday, the charge was changed to wounding with reckless disregard for the safety of the complainant.

The youth's lawyer, Sonja Cooper, confirmed her client had not denied the charge, and that the case was due back in court in October.

Further details, including anything identifying the defendant, the school they attended, or the complainant, cannot be published.
